Analysis Of The Movie "Shaft"
Number of pages:
6
ABSTRACT:
6 pages in length. Back in the early 1970's, there was an explosion upon the film industry with the release of the movie "Shaft". While the director expected his film to be an eye-opening portrayal of the black community, he was not prepared for the excitement that it ultimately generated. Indeed, most of the positive reaction came from those who could best identify with the on-screen characters; however, the world could not ignore the message that was being broadcast for all to hear: blacks were asserting a decidedly tougher, more rebellious and sexually active attitude. Termed as "blaxploitation," the writer discusses how "Shaft" established an undercurrent of strength and overt blackness in its new racial hero. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
